3-Bromopropyltrimeythylammonium bromide - Introduction
(3-bromopropyl)trimethylammonium bromide is an organic compound with the molecular formula [(CH3)3 NCH2CH2Br]Br. The following is a description of its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
-Appearance: Colorless to white solid
-Solubility: Soluble in water and organic solvents
-Melting point: about 100-105°C
-Density: about 1.4g/cm3
Use:
- (3-bromopyl) trimethylammonium bromide can be used as a quaternary ammonium salt surfactant, has good gelling properties, and is widely used in oil fields, water treatment, paper, textiles, inks and dyes.
-It can also be used as a polymer surfactant to improve the dispersion and adhesion of polymers, and is suitable for industrial fields such as coatings, adhesives and rubber.
Preparation Method:
- (3-bromopyl) trimethylammonium bromide can be prepared by the reaction of trimethylamine and 3-bromopropyl halide. The reaction is generally carried out at a lower temperature and a suitable amount of solvent (e. g. acetonitrile) is added. The reaction product is usually purified by crystallization or distillation.
Safety Information:
- (3-bromopyl) trimethylammonium bromide is an organic halide, which is irritating and corrosive. Contact with skin, eyes, or respiratory system may cause irritation and injury.
-Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as lab gloves, goggles and protective clothing when using.
-During operation, avoid dust, smoke or mist and ensure good ventilation.
-Keep away from flammable materials, heat sources and sparks to avoid the risk of fire and explosion.
-storage should be sealed, in a dry, cool, ventilated place, away from fire and oxidant.
